Monday Memo: Dresses for Everyday

unknown

These are dresses that you could wear everyday but are a little different so they add a splash of pizazz to your wardrobe. I think everyone could use a little of that from now and then!

Monday Memo: Glasses

 here
Many years back my sister found some glasses like this top photo at a thrift store - she took them in to get her prescription filled and voila, a very retro glasses look. I guess she was ahead of the curve because now you see these types of glass everywhere! They are very cool I must say. For someone who has fairly perfect vision, it gives you some glasses envy for sure. My dear old friend K used to wear glasses without a prescription in them because she felt cooler in them...isn't that funny? But it's so true - it's like a little bit of a prop of some sort. Makes you feel a little different than the person next to you. I had to get glasses for driving at night and you better believe I picked out the coolest pair I could find. There is this store in my neighborhood that has about a thousand uber hip glasses to choose from - it is quite the shopping experience. Some sunglasses after the jump...

Monday Memo: Sweaters

With chilly weather headed our way, here are some nice looking cozy sweaters. See more after the jump. Just realized that these are all GREY. Where is the color when you need it most?? Story of my life - my closet is filled with grey sweaters for some reason - I guess they just go with everything so it works but I need some to brighten up these grey days of winter.

How happy would that make you feel to see me in these? Cheerful, right?

Monday Memo: Sparkle and Fancy

How amazing are these dresses? All sparkly and gorgeous. I would give my left arm to own one of these or at the very least, get to wear for one night. Magical. Some fun inspiration for holiday parties.

Monday Memo: Fun Shirts

Some beautiful shirts - if I could afford to, I would buy my clothes exclusively at EmersonMade and Les Amis (in seattle!) but alas, I have to be a little more creative than the average bear. Eih, it makes things interesting and fun :) Plus, almost all of these shirts are un-nursable so they will have to wait for a different time.

Coveting Now: Simple yet Lovely

I love everything about this photo - the bun, the color and textures in the necklaces, the shirt falling off the shoulder. Just lovely. Just lovely.

Monday Memos: Puffy Jackets

Possibilities:
French Connection
The Gap
J.Crew

vs. Dreams
Moncler
Burberry

I am in the market for a new pouf. I have always owned a trusty Patagonia jacket but I think this time though around I may opt for something a little more fashionable. It still needs to be uber warm and it can't be ridiculously expensive. Actually, it can't even be expensive so that may throw this whole mission off but I will browse all the same. Apparently we are to receive our first Winter Blast 2011 this coming week so I want to be prepared right? (Sadly, the reality is that I should just buy myself a real and true raincoat cause that's what I am going need most of all this Fall/Winter. A search for another day perhaps)

P.S. Since writing this post, I went along and purchased a Patagonia puffy jacket after all. If I'm going to spend that kind of money on a jacket, I want to know that it will last forever. And I discovered that I fit a kid's XL which slashed the price down considerably. AND it was in a color that I love and it is just long enough to feel a little fashiony.

Baggy Sweat Pants

I forget what movie it was, but the main female character wore these really comfy yet not frumpy sweats. They were fitted somehow...I was pregnant at the time so I knew I couldn't try on a pair but as I was browsing H&M one day I found some that fit the bill. I bought them in my normal size and stored them away for post-pregnancy. You better believe that as soon as fit back into my pants, I tired those puppies on and I LOVED THEM. They are, first and foremost, comfortable, but they are also not the baggy sweat pants you wore in college - they FIT. They somehow make you feel COOL and HIP. Not bad, not bad at all. I mean if J.Crew is making some and they list them under not Sleepwear but, get this, Weekend Wear, than you know it's a trend you better get on.

Now that's Style with a Capital S

thesartorialist.com
Love this. Multiple necklaces, rings, big earrings.  Whoever said get dressed and then take one accessory off was way off given this look. It is fabulous. The rest of the look is simple which balances it all out. I wonder if she feels weighted by all that glam?

Style vs Fashion

 Iris Apfel from PEM
Iris Apfel from nytimes.com

vs.

When I was in high school, I had some serious style.  Not style that everyone would necessarily want to emulate but style none-the-less.  I wore gypsy/princess dresses made out of these great blues and greens and sequins and glitter thread.  I wore homemade skirts with a belt and boots and a little boy's raincoat.  Like I said, it wasn't popular fashion but it was eye-catching.  I have since slowly but steadily dropped back down to mainstream fashion. Not that being fashionable is bad or boring but it just doesn't take as much imagination or project otherworldliness.  And it's easy. Sorry to say, but it takes about 3 minutes to throw on some skinny jeans, a striped T, boots and maybe a chunky necklace.  It looks good and it feels cool but it is just a tad bit...well, easy.  Where as these outfits from Iris are mind-blowingly imaginative and make you gasp out loud.  They are works of art.  I need some more of that in my life...I just have to be able to nurse an infant and run after a toddler in them.  No big thang right?

Getting ready for Fall

photos from thesartorialist.com and garancedore.com

I am a sucker for the black tights/jeans with black boots. I love the long lean look it gives. These are all photos from a few years back when this look seemed to pop up everywhere but I think it's still relevant today. I love the jean jacket worn as a shirt in that last shot.  Smart idea to extend the life of the jean jacket into fall/winter.
